About Kerala Law Academy (KLA)
The Kerala Law Academy (KLA) stands as a center of excellence in legal education, consultancy, research, and pioneering law reforms. Located in Trivandrum, Kerala's capital, the prestigious Kerala Law Academy Law College occupies a picturesque hilltop with views of the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats. The liberal atmosphere of the Academy’s research wing, the Centre for Advanced Legal Studies and Research (CALSAR), fosters innovative thinking and ideals. This intellectual vitality is reflected in the Academy Law Review, an internationally acclaimed publication since its inception in 1977. The Academy's moot court teams consistently represent the institution on prestigious international platforms. KLA's commitment to social responsibility is evident through its socio-legal clinics and consultancy services. The college is affiliated with the University of Kerala, further strengthening its academic credentials.
Venue and Date:
The 5 th National ADR Competition, hosted by the Kerala Law Academy Law College, will be held via virtual mode from 17th to 19th OCTOBER 2024, from the Kerala Law Academy Campus, Peroorkada, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The competition will be conducted through the online platform ZOOM.
Team Composition:
a) The Competition is open to all Law Colleges / Law Schools and Universities; Departments of Law in India (hereafter “participating institutions”) recognized by the Bar Council of India. Students doing post-graduation in law and students undergoing correspondence courses are not eligible to participate in the Competition.
b) There is no bar on the number of teams from the same institution. Multiple entries are possible from the same institution. The team should be a team comprising of two-members and a Rapporteur
Competition Procedure:
a) Hypothetical problems with the legal subject matter and disputes may be assimilated and developed into the role-playing format through imagination and the individual skill of the participants.
b) Separate problems are provided for each round.
c) Problem No.1 is for the preliminary round. Problem No. 2 is for the semi-finals and Problem No. 3 is for the finals.
d) In all rounds, the rapporteurs of the competing teams will be exchanged.
e) Roleplay shall be based on real situation performance by the complainant/claimant, respondent, and rapporteur respectively according to the opted ADR methodology. A congenial methodology shall be selected.
f) Parties are to draw a conciliated settlement agreement.
g) Parties are to draw a mediated settlement agreement.
h) Parties are to draw an arbitral award.
i) Indian laws are applicable in Pari Materia
Awards:
Cash prizes for the winners. Every participant will be awarded with a certificate of participation. Honours in this competition include:
1. Best Team – Rs 20,000/-
2. Second Best Team - Certificate of Honour
3. Best Counsellor - Certificate of Honour
How to Register-
a. Provisional Registration - Institutions/Teams interested in participating in the Competition can provisionally register by sending an e-mail to klaadr@keralalawacademy.in on or before 25th September 2024, Wednesday (25.09.2024)
b. Direct Registration - The team intending to participate must register on or before 5 th October 2024, Saturday (05.10.2024) by submitting the duly filled Proforma provided in the Kerala Law Academy website; https://thekeralalawacademy.in/event-30 and making an online payment of Rs 2750/- (Two thousand Seven Hundred Fifty Only), as registration fee through the online link provided in the Kerala law academy website (https://keralalawacademy.in/5th-virtual-national-adr-competition) Registration Fees: Rs 2,750/- per team.
c. Team codes shall be allotted on 7 nd October 2024, Monday (07.10.2024)
